The directors of the complex are trying to expand, due to the high number of visitors who come either to study or for leisure. In the future it is hoped that the complex will accommodate national and international conferences given its comfortable facilities and excellent weather conditions. King Mandume fought the Portuguese military powers in defense of his territory in the first decade of the 20th Century. He died on 6th February, 1917 in the village of Oihole, in the municipality of Namacunde. Cultural tourism Fortes Roçadas Fortress: This fortress was built on the right bank of the Rivers Cunene and Xangongo, by the Portuguese captain Alves Roçadas, who finished it before occupying the southern part of the province. Vau-do-Pembe: There were also several battles here. The Portuguese colonial forces suffered a tremendous defeat at the hands of King Tchetekela. A historical monument in memory of the Portuguese who fell III battle as they tried to cross the River Cunene marks the spot. Mufilo: This is a chana situated south of Xangongo, on the way to Cumato, where a monument was erected in memory of the great fights and victories of King Mandume, aided by King Tchetekela of Cumato against the Portuguese in the 20th century. |
