Eduardo dos Santos showed optimism saying the results attained in this short period of peace indicate that Angola can guarantee a worth living to all citizens, should all and everyone do their best.
He also noted that Angola is currently one of the countries of the world where the economy growth faster, and defended the need for all to be done for this prosperity to be a lasting one and the nation to attain a sustainable development.
"The Angolan economy needs to grow for many years at a pace faster than the growth of its population, through the production of wealth to fight poverty in an effective way and secure the improvement of the citizens’ living standards”, he said.
In this regard, José Eduardo dos Santos emphasized that the Government is doing its part: “inflation has been maintained under control and the management of the public finances is improving, articulated with the management of the currency and of the country’s net foreign reserves”.
The president mentioned that the resources marshalled for the social sphere over the last few years, favoured the continuation of the social and productive reintegration of the demobilised and of the people displaced during the war and prioritised the provision of better basic social services, the promotion of social harmony and significant reduction of famine and misery.
“I for this reason believe that we are on the good path, but what is left to be done is still huge, mainly in the cities surroundings and rural areas”, said the president.
He thus called on the government to pay more attention to the families that live in those areas as, he added, the peasants are producing more and more and the factory workers and builders fulfilling their task better and better.
