Sarkozy’s Visit Marks New Era In Cooperation Ties  

Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, said here, that the visit of his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, will mark the start of a new era in the relationship between both countries, after a long period of misunderstandings, that “we expect to be definitely solved”.

Dos Santos added that” we should make an effort to adjust the new policy relations in the economic cooperation levels and the existing commercial interchange between both countries.
According to the Angolan head of State, more than 2000 French citizens live in the country, and the annual business volume is estimated at over USD 2.5 billion.
President Dos Santos highlighted also the fact of operating in the country more than 70 French companies, among them TOTAL-ELF, which operates in oil fields whose reserve is worth in 1,284 billion of barrels, being its volume of production estimated at 203,000 barrels per day.
The Angolan government will continue its policy of cooperation in these and other sectors, thus contributing to the energetic security of its strategic partners, the statesman added.
“We intend, for this fact and not only, that there must be stability and security in the Gulf of Guinea, reinforcing there, the mechanisms of cooperation and arrangements among the interested ones, respecting the power of the African States”, he stressed. Source: ANGOP
