Portuguese President Congratulates MPLA 

The Portuguese Head of State, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, Tuesday congratulated the President of Angola's ruling MPLA party, José Eduardo dos Santos, on the great results achieved by his political organisation in the September 05 legislative elections.
In a note distributed to the press, the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic informs that Aníbal Cavaco Silva was on Monday in contact with his Angolan counterpart, José Eduardo dos Santos, to whom he conveyed his satisfaction at the extremely important step towards the consolidation of democratic institutions in Angola.

exemplary tranquillity and civic attitude shown during electoral campaign and the massive participation in the legislative elections, a clear sign of the Angolan people's confidence in democracy and their belief in the country's future", refers the document.
This step, added the Portuguese Head of State, happened in a "framework of political pluralism, and for a future of peace, prosperity and economic and social development of Angolans to which Portugal and Portuguese citizens feel connected in a very particular manner". Source: ANGOP
