president Raul Castro, arrived on
wednesday for a three day official visit.
“It does not make any sense to sustain the
embargo on Cuba, which for almost 50 years has conditioned the life
of millions human beings, in blantant violation of the Huuman Rights”
the president stressed while reaffirming his government’s
“indefectible” support to the cuban people in his desire
to overcome this serious situation and for the consolidation of
his sovereignty and wellfare.
He said that angolans praise the virtues of cuban
people, the bravery coherence and dignity and the way they defend
their sovereignity and help other people.
“The sacrifices consented and the help granted
to Angola were worthwhile” - the president stated and added
“Here are some of the thousand comrades who took part in this
historical processand greeted you with emotion and respect”.
He said that he was proud to welcome his guest
in a new environment of peace and stability “in which we are
trying to repair what the war destoyed and set ground for the economic
and social development” of Angola.
The president stressed that the angolan government
is striving to resolve the problems of the population namely in
the domains of health and education and access to jobs, towards
the progressive erradication of hunger and poverty.
“Like in the trenchs, also in the new struggle
for the improvement of social conditions of our people and for the
redemption of our dignity there are cuban comrades working side
by side with angolans” - the president said.
President dos Santos acknowledged that “we
are living today in a different world with no more antagonic ideological
blocs and where the attempts to place the planet under the command
of only one super-power” has failed.
Socialism as concieved in the former Soviet Union
has failed, but capitalist system which succeeded is now facing
a serious crisis with some sectors defending its refoundation.
In the angolan president’s view, the emerging
countries, which economies are signaling great vitality, are structuring
new models, grounding its social and economic formation by combining
the virtues of the two systems (capitalism and socialism) with the
market economy with democracy and social justice.
It is a model which requires the existence of interventionist
economic policies,
