Lisbon: Angola gets Usd billion credit line from Portugal

Lisbon – The Portuguese prime minister, José Sócrates, Wednesday in Luanda, announced that his country’s credit line to Angola has risen from Usd 100 million, two years-and-a-half ago, to one billion.

José Sócrates was speaking to journalists after witnessing, with his Angolan colleague, José Eduardo dos

Santos, the signing of five documents, on reinforcement of cooperation in various fields.

At the end of the visit of the Angolan head of State to Portugal, the two parties signed a framework finance accord between the ministries of finance from both countries, an addendum to cover risk to credit for export of goods and services from the European country to Angola.

Following bilateral talks, the two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding between the Governments of Angola and Portugal for the establishment of an Angola/Portugal bank.

This was followed by another memorandum between the Department for Higher Education of Angola and the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

The whole file included a memorandum of understanding between the National Oil Company (Sonangol) and the Portuguese CGD bank, for the implementation of a partnership towards the establishment of a bank.

The signing of the accords, according to the Portuguese premier, constitutes a relevant step in the relations between Portugal and Angola and for the strengthening of their economic relations. Source: ANGOP 03/12/09
