 Germany: End of war changes country - Angolan president

Berlin – The President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos (photo), said this Friday in Berlin that the end of war in his country, in 2002, the peace consolidation, national reconstruction, institutional reforms and democratic development are transforming the country.

Germany/Angola economic forum, held in the framework of his visit to that European country that started on Thursday.

A great investment was made by the Angolan government for the resettlement of displaced people and to assist people under the refugees system abroad, due to the armed conflict, as well as for the social and harmonious reintegration of hundred of thousands of former soldiers and their respective families, the Statesman of Angola explained to about 500 people in attendance, among businessmen of Angola and Germany.

Infrastructures necessary for the normal functioning of the national economy and standardisation of the social life, such as the construction of roads, bridges, schools, electricity and water supply stations, among others are also part of the priorities. 

Regarding the political arena, he stressed the successful holding of the September 2008 legislative elections that were recognised by the international community, as free and just, confirming voters’ trust on the governance programme which is now being implemented countrywide. Source: ANGOP 02/27/09
