Angola: Pope’s visit preparation works satisfy Vatican official  

Luanda – The works around the preparation of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Angola, scheduled for March 20-23 this year, are on a good path and in symbiosis with the Angolan government and the Catholic Church, on Thursday here announced a source with the Vatican.

Guido Marini, said so to ANGOP on the fringes of a visit to some of the sites where the Pope will celebrate masses, having declared that all the places he saw are at a great and advanced  stage in terms of the works, reason why he believes that the visit will be a success.

“I came here with my collaborators for the preparation of the Holy Father’s visit and now I can have a complete vision of what is being done”, he said, adding that there is a great availability from the government and the Catholic Church with regard to the visit.

Guido Marini visited the Cimangola square, São Paulo and Santo António parishes and Coqueiros stadium, places where the Pope will chair and officiate religious ceremonies.

At São Paulo Parish it is was visible the engagement of the Brazilian Odebrecht civil engineering firm, that was repainting the statues there, internal and external walls, as well as rehabilitating the pavements and road in front of the temple.

Similar works have been carried out at Santo António Parish, where the altar was completely restored, the walls are receiving new paintings and the floors expecting new mosaics.
 At Cimangola square are in progress levelling of the ground works being done by Odebrecht.

 Pope Benedict XVI is expected in Luanda on March 20, coming from Cameroon, and will be received at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by religious entities, diplomats and politicians.

Benedict XVI was born on April 16, 1927, in Germany.
