American projects: US ambassador reaffirms support to Angolan govt  

Soyo – The US ambassador to Angola, Dan Mozena, on Thursday here reaffirmed his government’s wish of continuing to co-operate with Angola in its national reconstruction programme, ANGOP has learnt.

Dan Mozena, who was speaking to the press, while making a balance of

his three-day visit to Soyo District’s oil exploration area, in the northern Zaire Province, said the Angolan government is a privileged partner in American projects, mainly for joint solution of the world financial crisis and health matters for a general stability of both peoples.

 The diplomat said that for the specific case of Zaire Province, the economic and social sectors are priorities and that institutions such as USAID will fund and participate in farming activities that will provide self-sustenance production in the region.
 ”Besides oil, Zaire Province has potential fertile areas for agriculture that can be explored and give good results in this ambit”, he said.

He informed that the US government has available 1.5 million dollars to finance part of the project of communit programme for fight against malaria, to benefit populations of Soyo, Tomboco and Nzeto.
 The programme is based on education programmes regarding  malaria, in schools and communities, organising and training teachers and students in modern techniques, in order to facilitate the information in community in the fight against this disease.

This will be extended to the districts of Mbanza Congo, Kuimba and Noqui, to reach at least 100.000 people in 200 communities in Zaire, until 2010.
