Angola/Germany: Dos Santos highlights “understandings” with German chancellor  

Berlim – President Jose Eduardo dos Santos today said in Berlim that “there were understandings” in all subjects discussed with german chancellor Angela Merkel.

“We leave deeply satisfied and we will carry on our contact to discuss all subjects of bilateral interest and always in order to set up a cooperation none will loose” - the visiting angolan head of state said at the end of  a meeting with chancellor Merkel.

president said that the major concern, at the moment, “is the  reduction of the receipts of the state budget due to the fall of the oil and diamond prices”.
He acknowledged that some public investments which were “in our projects did not get the financial support for their implementation”, therefore the search of financings for their executions.

Meanwhile, the german chancellor stressed the fact that Angola has reached a stable peace, therefore the country is having a remarkable development, a massive budget, its raw materials mean a source of revenue, so “Angola is an example of a country that can reach high growth rates”.  

Angela Merkel also heightened Angola’s contribution for stability in Zimbabwe, and for the resolution of other regional conflicts in Africa, and wished a bright future for the continent.

“Despite the crisis wil will continue to give our assistance to the development of the continent.

If africans do not have perspectives there will be violent conflicts, more refugees, among other disasters”- the chancellor said.

The chancellor said that the relations between Angola and Germany are traditionally good, adding that the visit of president Dos Santos to her country represents a new stage in them.

She also described the visit of president Eduardo dos Santos to Germany as of “much interest” as, she added, the cooperation with her country is very important as Angola intends to diversify its economy.

While admitting a rise in trade between the two countries over the last few years, the chancellor said there is still much room for its diversification.

In his turn, José Eduardo dos Santos, said he hopes his visit to Germany leads to the reinforcement of the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“We have had fruitful discussions with Mrs chancellor and also with the president of the Republic, we reviewed bilateral relations and other matters of international nature,” he added. Source: ANGOP 02/27/09
