Angola, DRC Presidents Concerned About Darfur Conflict 

The heads of State of Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo, José Eduardo dos Santos and Joseph Kabila, respectively, in Luanda expressed concern about prevailing or latent crises and conflicts in the continent, particularly those of Darfur (Sudan) and Somalia.
The concern is expressed in a final

communique released to the press by the Foreign Ministry, following the two-day working visit of DRC president to Angola, at the invitation of his local counterpart, José Eduardo dos Santos.
According to the communique, the two presidents reiterated their firm will to contribute for an urgent political solution to the said conflicts, through the concerned mechanisms of the African Union and United Nations.
On the other hand, José Eduardo dos Santos encouraged his DRC colleague to continue with the task of pacifying the eastern part of his country, through a close follow-up of the process of reunification of the armed forces, seeking to hold down the hostile forces actions.
The two heads of State highlighted the need for reinforced bilateral cooperation in the domains of transports, communications, public works, geology and mining, fisheries, hydrocarbons, culture, education, defence and security, youth and sports.
To this end, the delegations from both countries recognised he importance of holding the 9th session of the Joint Bilateral Commission, scheduled for October 2007, in Kinshasa, DRC.
The presidents also reiterated their commitment to the strengthening of south-south cooperation, with a view to the complementariness of the economies of respective countries, in line with the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Joseph Kabila arrived in Angola on Monday, at the head of a delegation of three ministers of State, six ministers and experts with various sectors.
As part of the programme of his visit to Angola, Joseph Kabila travelled to central Benguela province, where he toured the Lobito Port, the premises of the metal-mechanic constructions shipyard (Sonamet) and was briefed on the process of rehabilitation of the Benguela Railway (CFB). Source: Angop
