About 500,000 hectares of various cereals will be planted
in the 14 districts that make up south Huíla province,
in the light of the 2007/2008 agricultural campaign that
begins next October, ANGOP learnt from the local director
of Agriculture and Rural Development (Minader), Lutero Campos.
The official informed that 302,000 hectares will be reserved
for maize planting, whilst the remaining 292,000 will be
occupied by other cultures such as beans, millet, peanut
and vegetables.
Lutero Campos said that during the

revealing exact numbers, the province will witness a rise in the
production of cereals, since assistance by the government, in seeds,
fertilisers and other means of support to production are already
reaching the province and are to be distributed soon.
Apart from this, according to the source, land preparation works,
on the part of the National Firm of Agricultural Mechanisation (Mecanagro),
have already started last week, what pleases him since local farmers
will have their land prepared with anticipation.
Without revealing the amounts, he stated that the harvest of the
2006/2007 campaign occurred in a good rhythm and, if all goes according
to plan, the expected harvest goal might be achieved, estimated
at 600,000 tonnes of various field products.
